What changed on the tree, and why
A post is written only when a weekly reading or a ruling changes something a reader would want explained: an upgrade moving up a rung, a date on the record corrected, a question ruled, a claim added or settled, the count moving. Each post says what happened, where the record is, what it changes on this site, and what it does not mean.
Start here: of 35 ways to change a human being on purpose, 28 have been tried in a person
Some people expect humans to improve themselves with devices, drugs and surgery, and in the end to merge with their machines. This site counts what has actually been done, from the public record, and this post explains where the count stood on 18 October 2026 and how to follow it.

A 1977 paper moves the first brain-to-computer link without surgery back eleven years
The earliest record the site had of a person working a computer through electrodes on the scalp, with no surgery, was a speller from 1988. A paper published in May 1977 shows volunteers doing it eleven years earlier, and the tree now dates that first step to 1977.
Every change to the record, including the ones no post explains, is in the story so far, day by day. The weekly readings themselves are on this week's reading.
